What is the Wyckoff Method and why keep a trading journal?

The Wyckoff Method is a technical analysis approach developed by Richard Wyckoff in the early 1900s. It focuses on reading market cycles through price and volume — identifying Accumulation and Distribution phases, and key signals like Springs, Upthrusts and Tests. The core idea: large operators (the Composite Man) accumulate positions before markup and distribute before markdown.

Why Wyckoff traders need structured journaling

Wyckoff trading requires reading complex market phases — Accumulation phases A through E, Trading Ranges, Springs and Upthrusts. Without a journal, it's impossible to know if you are correctly identifying these phases or if your entries are actually aligned with the Composite Man's intent.
